Terms of use
These terms are the agreement between ChessDoer and the people who use it: parents and guardians, students, and school staff. By registering a child, paying, or using ChessDoer, you agree to them. Schools that partner with ChessDoer also sign a separate school agreement; if the two differ, the school agreement wins for the school.
What ChessDoer is
ChessDoer is a chess course that runs in a web browser. Children learn in their school’s computer lab during chess class, and can also practise at home. Lessons, puzzles and exams are written by our founder, Honi Arora, FIDE Master. The software teaches; a school teacher stays with the class to keep it in order.
Accounts and sign-in
- Students sign in with their batch code, their face and a 4-digit PIN. Keep the PIN private. If a PIN is forgotten, the school office or the parent page shows it, and the school can set a new one.
- Parents reach their parent page through a link sent to their WhatsApp number, or by entering that number at chessdoer.com/p.
- School staff sign in with email, password and a two-step code. Do not share your sign-in.
Tell us at once if you think someone else is using an account.
The fee
- The monthly fee is shown on the registration and pay pages before you pay. You get a receipt for every payment.
- Each child’s month starts on the day of their first payment and repeats on the same date every month (on the 29th to 31st, the last day of shorter months).
- You can pay by UPI auto-pay (your bank debits the fee each month after you approve it once) or pay each month with a payment link.
- Billing continues through school holidays, so children can keep practising at home.
If a payment is late
- On the due date we send a payment link, and your child sees a message to ask you to pay.
- After 3 days we send one reminder.
- After 7 days, chess is paused for that child. Progress is never lost.
- If you pay after the pause, a new month starts on the day you pay. You are not charged for the paused days.
Stopping
You can stop at any time:
- Stop auto-pay on your parent page, or cancel the mandate in your UPI app. Your child keeps access until the end of the month already paid.
- Or simply do not pay the next month; chess pauses as described above.
Refunds are covered by our Cancellation and refund policy.
What schools do
A partner school provides lab time and computers, sends a teacher with each batch, and shares our registration link or its student list. The school sees its own students’ progress and whether each fee is paid. The school’s share of fees is set out in the school agreement.
Using ChessDoer fairly
Please do not:
- sign in as someone else, or try to see another child’s or school’s data;
- copy, resell or publish our lessons, puzzles or exams;
- try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service;
- use ChessDoer to harass anyone.
We may pause an account that breaks these rules, and we will tell the parent or school why.
Our content
The lessons, puzzles, exams, pictures, Rooky the mascot and the ChessDoer name belong to ChessDoer. Open-source parts, such as the Stockfish chess engine, are used under their own licences, listed on the engine licences page in the app.
Certificates
ChessDoer certificates show that a child passed a ChessDoer level exam. They are signed by our founder, but they are not FIDE ratings or titles, and not a school or board qualification.
Availability
We work hard to keep ChessDoer running during school hours, but it can sometimes be slow or unavailable (for example, during maintenance or an internet outage). A lesson in progress saves when the connection comes back.
Responsibility
We provide ChessDoer with care, but we do not promise any particular result in exams, ratings or school marks. As far as the law allows, our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 3 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or any other law that cannot be excluded.
Privacy
How we handle personal data is explained in our Privacy policy.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If we cannot settle a problem by talking, the courts in Jaipur, Rajasthan will decide.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell parents on WhatsApp before they apply.
